Understanding aerial photography costs in the UK

What you actually pay for when you book aerial drone photography in the UK — and the rate cards that hide the real numbers.

Aerial photography pricing in the UK varies more than most clients expect. The flight itself is the smallest part of the cost — the larger numbers come from CAA permissions, insurance, travel, post-processing, and the photographer's experience working in restricted airspace.

Most reputable operators in Liverpool and the wider North West price a standard half-day commercial flight between £300 and £500. That covers a site survey, the flight, basic colour-graded stills, and a short video edit. Larger jobs — multi-site mapping, construction monitoring, restricted airspace work — quote individually.

What pushes prices up: airspace clearance in city centres (Liverpool's John Lennon Airport zone adds real time), large site permissions, high-resolution stitched maps, and short-notice bookings. What keeps prices fair: regular work for the same client, agreed monthly volumes, and shoots that don't require complex permissions.

When comparing quotes, ask three questions: Are they CAA registered with current Operational Authorisation? Do they carry at least £5m public liability cover? And does the price include final edited deliverables, or just the flight? The answers tell you exactly what you're buying.
